In December, Vanessa Uribe was diagnosed with Anti-NMDA receptor encephalitis — a disease occurring when antibodies produced by the body’s own immune system attack NMDA receptors in the brain.
The symptoms of the disease include memory loss, sleep disorders, speech dysfunction, cognitive and behavioral disturbances, severe movement disorders, autonomic dysfunction and loss of consciousness.
The crowdfunding campaign for Vanessa Uribe was launched by Stephanie Arcell and her fiance Michael Miesch, who are friends of Uribe's family. The goal is to raise $10,000 to help Uribe's family handle their medical bills.
"Vanessa is a sweet girl who strives to be a great friend, daughter, and student," Arcell told Daily Voice. "She deserves nothing but the best but her family cannot afford this hardship."
